Etymology: < Clichy (French Clichy), the name of a town in the department of Haut-de-Seine, near Paris, in France. Compare French blanc de Clichy Clichy white (1813 or earlier).
Now historical and rare.
attributive. Designating a pure form of white lead manufactured at Clichy in France, or the process used there to produce this, as Clichy process, Clichy white.
