† baze, v. Obs. or dial. Also baize. [App. identical with Du. bazen, verbazen to astonish, stupefy; but its late appearance in Eng. (or Sc.) is not explained. Cf. also obs. Ger. basen (in Grimm) to rave.] To stupefy, frighten, alarm.
