† aˈweld, awild, v. Obs. [f. a- prefix 1 + OE. węldan, weak deriv. of wealdan (see awald v.); or for OE. ᵹewęldan, cogn. with MHG. gewalten, gewalden.] 1. trans. To rule with power, control, subdue; to wield, manage.
