[f. methyl + amino- + di-2 + -one in 6-dimethylamino-4, 4-diphenyl-3-heptanone, the systematic chemical name.] A powerful synthetic analgesic, (CH3)2N·CH(CH3)·CH2·C(C6H5)2·CO·CH2·CH3, which is similar to morphine in its effects but less sedative and is used (usu. as the hydrochloride) as a substitute drug in the treatment of addiction to morphine or heroin.
