metformin, n. Pharm.|mɛtˈfɔːmɪn| [f. methyl n. + formaldehyde n. + imino-: cf. phenformin n.] A white crystalline solid, 1,1-dimethylbiguanide, C4H11N5 , or its hydrochloride, which has been used in the oral treatment of diabetes mellitus.
