Of, pertaining to, or designating a division of the Upper Jurassic in Britain lying below the Kimeridgian and above the Callovian (in continental Europe restricted to the lower part of this division). Also absol., the Oxfordian stage or period. [In this sense ad. F. oxfordien (J. Thurmann 1830, in Mém. de la Soc. d'Hist. nat. de Strasbourg I. 22).]
