Mekhitarist, n. and a.|ˈmɛkɪtɑːrɪst| Also mechitarist. [f. Mekhitar (see below) + -ist.] A. n. One of a congregation of Armenian monks of the Roman Catholic church originally founded at Constantinople in 1701 by Mekhitar, an Armenian, and by him in 1717 finally established in the island of San Lazzaro, south of Venice.
