impennate, a. and n. Ornith.|ɪmˈpɛnət| [f. im-2 + pennate, after mod.L. Impenn-es.] A. adj. Featherless, wingless; spec. applied to the Impennes, a name given by Illiger, 1811, to certain swimming birds which have small wings covered with scale-like feathers, as the penguins. B. n. A bird of this kind.
