‖ hypogeum|hɪpəʊˈdʒiːəm, haɪpəʊ-| Also -gæum. Pl. hypogea |-ˈdʒiːə|. [L. hypogēum, hypogæum, ad. Gr. ὑπόγειον, ὑπόγαιον neut. sing. of ὑπόγειος underground; see hypogean, and cf. hypogee.] An underground chamber or vault.
