† halecret, hallecret Sc. Obs.|ˈhælkrɪt| Forms: 6 halkrig, halkri(c)k, 9 halkrike, hal(l)ecret, allecret. [a. F. halecret, in 15–16th c. allecret, halcret, of uncertain origin: perh. containing Ger. hals neck.] ‘A species of corslet, of beaten iron, composed of two pieces for the front and the back’ (Littré); according to Meyrick ‘a half-suit of light plate armour, worn alike by footmen and horsemen, furnished with long tassels’; used about the middle of the 16th century.
