A small flock or tuft.
1. A small quantity of loosely-aggregated matter resembling a flock of wool, held in suspension in, or precipitated from, a fluid.

2. Anat. A small lobe in the under surface of the cerebellum, immediately behind the middle peduncle; the subpeduncular lobe.

a. Applied to the wisps of luminosity in a nebula.
1826Herschel in Mem. Astron. Soc. Lond. II. 491 The flocculi [in the nebula of Orion], instead of being generally round, are drawn out into little wisps.
b. One of the small cloudy wisps or masses on the sun's surface, revealed when the sun is photographed with the spectroheliograph.
