tartrelic, a. Chem.|tɑːˈtrɛlɪk| [ad. F. tartrélique (Frémy 1838), arbitrarily formed, along with tartralic, q.v., to indicate derivation from tartaric acid by further heating; the a and e indicating the order of production of these modifications. (Annales de Chimie LXVIII. (1838).)] In tartrelic acid, soluble tartaric anhydride, C4H4O5 = C4H6O6{b1}H2O, obtained as a yellowish deliquescent mass by quickly heating small quantities of tartaric acid. Its salts are ˈtartrelates. See tartralic.
