‖ diaˈpalma Pharm.
[med. or mod.L. f. dia-2 + L. palma palm: in F. diapalme.]
A desiccating or detersive plaster composed originally of palm oil, litharge, and sulphate of zinc, now of white wax, emplastrum simplex, and sulphate of zinc.
1646Sir T. Browne Pseud. Ep. iv. iv. 186 We as highly conceive of the practice in Diapalma, that is in the making of that plaister, to stirre it with the stick of a Palme. 1660Boyle New Exp. Phys. Mech. xxii. 176 We stopt the mouth of the Glass with a flat piece of Diapalma, provided for the purpose. 1741Compl. Fam.
