drift station

[′drift ‚stā·shən] (oceanography) A scientific station established on the ice of the Arctic Ocean, generally based on an ice flow. A set of observations made over a period of time from a drifting vessel.

drift station

A term sometimes used in SHORAN (short-range navigation) operations to designate the ground station about which the aircraft flies during arc navigation. The second ground station is then referred to as the rate station.
