Candytufts

a genus (Iberis) of plants of the Cruciferae family. Candytufts are annual or perennial grasses or low subshrubs with entire leaves. The flowers have cymose inflorescence. The petals are white, pink, or violet. The fruit are silicula. There are about 30 species in Europe (primarily in the Mediterranean), in the Caucasus, and in Asia Minor. In the USSR four species are common on the rocky slopes and cliffs of the Caucasus and the southern Ukraine. I. amara and some other candytufts are cultivated as ornamentals.
