Çildir

a lake in northeastern Turkey. Lake Çildir occupies an area of 120 sq km and has depths to 42 m. It is located on the Kars Plateau of the Armenian Highland, in an intermontane depression with an elevation of 1,959 m; it is ringed by lava flows. The lake is drained by the Kars River (Araks River basin). It freezes over in winter.
