(der'mă-tō-fi-lō'sis), An infectious exudative dermatitis of cattle, sheep, goats, horses, and other animals (occasionally humans) caused by the bacterium Dermatophilus congolensis; severe (sometimes fatal) dermatophilosis is seen in cattle in Africa and the Caribbean, invariably in association with Amblyomma variegatum tick infestations. (dĕr'mă-tō-fĭ-lō'sis) An exudative, pustular dermatitis affecting a wide range of animals, including, occasionally, humans; particularly severe in ruminants. Theetiologic agent is a gram-positive bacterium, Dermatophilus congolensis.
