Konakovo
Konakovo
(until 1930, Kuznetsovo), a city (since 1937) in Kalinin Oblast, RSFSR. Located 74 km southeast of Kalinin. Landing on the Ivan’kovo Reservoir. Linked by a railroad branch (36 km) with the Reshetnikovo station on the Moscow-Leningrad line. Population, 32,000 (1972).
The city is the site of the M. I. Kalinin Faience Factory and the Konakovo State Regional Power Plant. There is production of building materials in the city. Konakovo has an energetics technicum. The city was renamed in honor of the local-born revolutionary P. P. Konakov.
