Silent Days

Begins between March 19 and April 22; Thursday, Friday, and Saturday before EasterThe last three days of Holy Week— Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and Holy Saturday—were at one time referred to as the Swidages, from an Old English word meaning "to be silent." From this came Silent Days or Still Days —three days during which the church bells in England remained silent. The bells were rung again at the Easter Vigil service.
