Polygenetic Volcano

a volcano formed by eruptions separated by long periods of dormancy and characterized by changes in both the nature of the eruptions and the composition of the lavas. Bol’shoi Semiachik on Kamchatka in the USSR and Kilimanjaro in Africa are examples of polygenetic volcanoes. The opposite of a polygenetic volcano is a monogenetic volcano, which is formed by a single eruption. Ivanov Volcano on Kamchatka is a monogenetic volcano.
