Tarde Gabriel

(1843-1904) French social psychologist and criminologist whose studies of crime were couched in terms of an opposition to the biologistic reductionism of LOMBROSO.In sociology he is best remembered for Les Lois de l’Imitation (1890), a work singled out for criticism by DURKHEIM (Le Suicide, 1897) as underestimating the constraining external force of social currents.
