labour mobility

labour mobility

the movement of workers between firms, industries and regions in response to PAY DIFFERENTIALS and employment opportunities. Occupational mobility (the movement of workers between different types of JOB) depends upon, for example, the facilities for TRAINING and retraining workers provided by firms and the government, and upon the transferability of workers' occupational PENSIONS. Geographical mobility (the movement of workers between areas) depends upon, for example, the availability and cost of housing, relocation costs and social amenities (schools etc.).
