Nasonov, Dmitrii Nikolaevich

Born June 28 (July 10), 1895, in Warsaw; died Dec. 21, 1957, in Leningrad. Soviet cell biologist. Corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1943); academician of the Academy of Medical Sciences of the USSR (1945). Son of N. V. Nasonov.

In 1919 D. N. Nasonov graduated from the University of Petrograd; he worked there and in the All-Union Institute of Experimental Medicine from 1933 to 1950. From 1935 he was professor at Leningrad State University. In 1957 he was director of the Institute of Cytology of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR.

Nasorov demonstrated the participation of the Golgi complex in cell secretion and excretion. He proposed the concept of “paranecrosis” and formulated the protein theory of injury and arousal (together with the Soviet cytologist V. Ia. Aleksandrov). Developing the views of N. E. Vvedenskii on arousal, he demonstrated the correspondence of functional and structural changes during parabiosis and elaborated a theory of nerve-impulse conduction. Nasonov received the State Prize of the USSR in 1943.
