Kuvshinovo

a city (prior to 1938, a settlement), center of Kuvshinovo Raion, Kalinin Oblast, RSFSR, located on the Osuga River (Volga Basin), 133 km west of Kalinin. A railroad station on the LikhoslavP-Soblago line. The city has a pulp-and-paper complex, a lumbering complex, and a logging and timber procurement establishment. There is a pulp-and-paper technicum. M. Gorky lived in Kuvshinovo from October 1897 through January 1898.
