also Kat·man·du K0021400 (kăt′măn-do͞o′, kät′män-) The capital and largest city of Nepal, in the central part of the country in the eastern Himalaya Mountains. It was founded c. 723 and was a Gurkha capital from 1768 until the late 1700s.
