Its main industrial growth dates from 1870. Devastated during World War II, the city was rebuilt with parks, theaters, and museums.Hagena city in the German Federal Republic, in the Land (state) of Nordrhein-Westfalen. Situated on the Volme River near its confluence with the Ruhr River. Population, 231,800 (1975). Industry is represented by ferrous metallurgy, metalworking, and machine building, including the production of machine tools and electrical equipment.
