Etymology: < adore v. + -ant suffix1. Compare earlier adoring adj.The use in sense A. 1 is not typical of words in -ant suffix1, and may reflect a misapprehension. In quot. 1623 at sense B. probably after Spanish adorante (16th cent. or earlier as noun).
