Etymology: < white adj. + beaked adj. Compare scientific Latin albirostris , specific name of various animals (1764 with reference to a tanager, or earlier), and leucoramphus (1807), specific name of birds and (formerly) of a dolphin (see quot. 1840 for white-beaked dolphin n. at Compounds).
