1. Permission to make and use a way for conveying coal from the pithead across private land; (more generally) a right of way, esp. one granted by the owner of land to a particular body for a particular purpose, as for carrying telephone wires over or along buildings, or laying paths or pipes across land; permission to use land for such a purpose.
