单词 adductory
释义

adductoryadj.

Brit. /əˈdʌkt(ə)ri/, U.S. /əˈdəkt(ə)ri/
Origin: A borrowing from Latin, combined with an English element; perhaps modelled on a Latin lexical item. Etymons: Latin addūct-, , addūcere , -ory suffix2.
Etymology: < classical Latin addūct-, past participial stem of addūcere + -ory suffix2, perhaps after post-classical Latin adductorius (1686 or earlier in this sense (rare); 6th cent. in sense ‘drawing out, causing to blister’ (see note)). Compare earlier adduction n.1 and adductor n. and later adduct v.Post-classical Latin adductorius ‘drawing out, causing to blister' translates ancient Greek ἐπισπαστικός epispastic adj.; compare also post-classical Latin adductorium (noun) curtain at the entrance to the tabernacle (Vetus Latina), translating Hellenistic Greek ἐπίσπαστρον.
