Etymology: < Middle French, French brume winter, (specifically) the winter solstice (second half of the 13th cent. in Old French), fog (1562 in Middle French), mist (1752) < classical Latin brūma winter, wintry weather (see brumal adj.), probably immediately via Old Occitan bruma (13th cent.).
