A group of seven military leaders raised by Oedipus's son Polynices and under the command of Adrastus, king of Argos, who fought against the city of Thebes in Boeotia when Polynices's brother Eteocles refused to share its rule with him. Often in the Seven against (also before) Thebes, translating or with reference to Ἑπτὰ ἐπὶ Θήβας, the title of a play by Aeschylus (first produced in 467 b.c.).
