单词 boron
释义

boronn.

Brit. /ˈbɔːrɒn/, U.S. /ˈbɔˌrɑn/
Etymology: < bor- (in borax n.) + -on (in carbon n.), the element being extracted from borax, and resembling carbon in some of its properties.
Chemistry.
a. One of the elementary bodies; a non-metallic solid, not fusible at any known temperature. It is obtained as a dark brown or greenish brown powder ( amorphous boron); and in a less pure form as crystals ( adamantine boron). In some of its properties it resembles carbon and silicon. Symbol B. boron hydride n. any of a series of compounds of boron and hydrogen; at one time considered as potential rocket fuel, and among the earliest examples of electron-deficient compounds; = borane n.

boron nitride n. Chemistry the nitride of boron, BN, a solid compound made synthetically and noted for its hardness and stability; cf. aethogen n., borazon n.Boron nitride occurs in several different crystalline forms and as an amorphous powder. Its uses include abrasives, lubricants, cosmetics, and semiconductor devices. The various forms of boron nitride are analogous to the structures of carbon, with which it is isoelectronic.
