A pungent-smelling, crystalline terpenoid alcohol present in Borneo camphor, of which it is the main constituent, and in volatile oils obtained from many other plants.Chemical name: 1,7,7-trimethylbicyclo[2.2.1]heptan-2-ol, C10H18O. Cf. isoborneol n. at iso- comb. form 2b.

For this reason the author [sc. M. Gerhardt] applies to the carburetted hydrogen of the valerian oil the name of Bornéen, and to the camphor that of Borneol.
