单词 televisor
释义

televisorn.

Brit. /ˈtɛlᵻvʌɪzə/, U.S. /ˈtɛləˌvaɪzər/
Origin: Probably formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: television n., -or suffix; televise v., -or suffix.
Etymology: Probably partly < televis- (in television n.) + -or suffix, and partly (in sense 2) < televise v. + -or suffix. Compare televise v., which is first attested very slightly later, and also televiser n.
1. An apparatus for transmitting and receiving television pictures in which a video signal is generated by the action of light on photoconductive cells after having passed through a revolving perforated disk, this signal controlling the brightness of a neon lamp which, in conjunction with a second disk, projects an image; (originally and esp.) a device of this kind designed and patented by John Logie Baird. Now historical.Partly mechanical instruments like these were largely superseded by purely electronic television equipment during the 1930s.
