An electronic device that displays a prepared text to a speaker or performer in such a way that it can be read while appearing to look directly at the audience or into a television camera; esp. (in later use) such a device which projects text onto a transparent panel in front of a television camera lens in such a way that the text remains hidden from the camera. Cf. autocue n. 2.
