Etymology: < German tektogenese (E. Haarman 1926, in Zeitschr. f. Deutsch. Geol. Ges. LXXVIII. B. 106), < Greek τέκτων , τέκτον- carpenter, builder: see -genesis comb. form.
Geology.
The formation of the highly distorted rock structures characteristic of mountain ranges, as distinct from the formation of mountainous topography itself.
