Etymology: < post-classical Latin supervention-, superventio sudden appearance (5th cent.), inroad (9th cent.) < classical Latin supervent- , past participial stem of supervenīre supervene v. + -iō -ion suffix1. Compare Middle French survencion arrival, visit (c1343 in an apparently isolated attestation).
