Etymology: representing the stem of the oblique cases (sule , sulum , etc.) of Old English sulh sullow n., or the later nominative sul , sūl . Somerset zill representing Old English oblique syl(l for sylh (compare sillow , etc. s.v. sullow n.).
Chiefly w. and south-western dialect.
