Etymology: < classical Latin subsortīt-, past participial stem of subsortīrī to appoint by lot as a substitute (see subsortition n.) + -ious suffix (compare -itious suffix1) + -ly suffix2. Compare slightly later subsortition n.
Obsolete. rare.
By means of subsortition or ballot.
