Etymology: < sub- prefix + radius n. In sense 1 probably after post-classical Latin subradius (1713 or earlier in this sense). In sense 2 after German Subradius ( E. Haeckel Monographie der Medusen (1881) ii. 134). In sense 3 after scientific Latin subradius (1837 or earlier in this sense).In plural form subradii after the Latin plural form.
1. Geometry. In full subradius of curvature. A straight line which extends horizontally from the centre of curvature of a particular point of a curve to a perpendicular drawn from that point to the x-axis. Obsolete. rare.Cf. radius of curvature n. at curvature n. Phrases a.

2. Zoology. In an invertebrate with radial symmetry, esp. a cnidarian: any of the quaternary (fourth order) rays or axes (each located between an adradius and a perradius or interradius). Obsolete. rare.
