单词 olé
释义

oléint.n.2

Brit. /əʊˈleɪ/, U.S. /oʊˈleɪ/
Origin: Of multiple origins. Partly a borrowing from Spanish. Partly a borrowing from French. Etymons: Spanish olé; French ollé.
Etymology: < Spanish olé bravo (1747; 1541 as ole ). In quot. 1914 at sense A. via French ollé (1899 in the passage translated). Compare ole n.1It is impossible to say to what extent the development of olé was independent of other interjections. It may have developed from Spanish holá (also (18th cent.) ola : compare holla int., and the interjection ola in 18th-cent. English dramatic texts); the aspirated and unaspirated forms probably do not differ in use or origin (a similar uncertainty about aspiration affects French ululer ululate v., and may typify interjections).
A. int.
An exclamation of praise or encouragement, usually associated with Spanish music and dance and with bullfighting; ‘bravo’, ‘well done’.
