In a cathedral or collegiate church: a precentor's deputy; a succentor; (in certain institutions also) the leader of the vicars choral (see vicar choral at choral adj.1 1b).Now disused as a title, except at Lichfield Cathedral.In quot. ?1605 in figurative context.
