Etymology: < stick n.1 + bomb n. With use with reference to a weapon used by German forces in the World Wars compare German Stielhandgranate (see stick grenade n. at stick n.1 Compounds 2).
Now chiefly historical.
An explosive device with a protruding stick to facilitate firing or throwing. Cf. stick grenade n. at stick n.1 Compounds 2.

Now rare.
During the Second World War (1939–45): an anti-tank grenade covered with an adhesive substance to make it stick to its target. In later use: any bomb designed to stick to its target. Cf. sticky bomb n. at sticky adj.2 Compounds.
