单词 bockety
释义

bocketyadj.

Brit. /ˈbɒkᵻti/, U.S. /ˈbɑkədi/, Irish English /ˈbɑkəti/
Forms: 1800s– bockedy, 1900s– bacaidí, 1900s– bocketty, 1900s– bockety, 1900s– buckety.
Origin: Of uncertain origin. Probably a borrowing from Irish, combined with an English element. Or perhaps a borrowing from Irish. Etymons: Irish bacach , -ety suffix.
Etymology: Probably (i) < Irish bacach lame, imperfect (Early Irish baccach < bacc angle, hook, hindrance, of uncertain origin + -ach, suffix forming adjectives) + -ety suffix (perhaps influenced by rickety adj.), or (ii) perhaps < the reflex of an unattested (but regular) past participle form of Early Irish baccaigid lames ( < baccach). With the form bacaidí compare Irish bacaidí lame person or animal (20th cent.), reinforced by association with English -ety suffix. P.W. Joyce Eng. as we speak it in Ireland (1910) at boccach also records a noun bockady lame person, used in Munster.
Irish English.
