Etymology: < medieval or modern Latin sōliped-, sōlipēs, < sōli-, sōlus along, only + pēs foot, or alteration of Latin solidipēs. Compare French solipède. In the plural the Latin form solipedes (/sə'lɪpɪdiːz/) has also been employed.
