单词 spack
释义

spackadj.adv.

Brit. /spak/, U.S. /spæk/
Forms: Middle English spac, Middle English spak, Middle English spake, 1600s–1700s 1900s– spack.
Origin: A borrowing from early Scandinavian.
Etymology: < early Scandinavian (compare Old Icelandic spakr wise, quiet, gentle, Old Swedish spaker wise, quiet, gentle, peaceful (Swedish spak), Old Danish spak, spag quiet, gentle (Danish spag)), perhaps < the same Indo-European base as Croatian paziti to give heed to (14th cent.).Slightly earlier currency is perhaps implied by the surname Ricardus Spakeman (1197), although this may instead reflect the early Scandinavian word.
A. adj.
1. Of a person: quick, prompt, ready; intelligent, clever. In later use archaic and English regional.
