Origin: Probably a borrowing from early Scandinavian.
Etymology: probably of Scandinavian origin: compare Norwegian slara to stagger; also North Frisian slare to drag the feet. Slare or slair in other senses (see Eng. Dial. Dict.) is current in all northern and eastern dialects.
