Etymology: Either the reflex of an unattested Old English adjective *scytel ( < the Germanic base of shute n.1 + the Germanic base of -el suffix1; compare shuttle n.1), or directly < shuttle n.1 (compare forms at that entry). Compare shuttle adj.
Obsolete.
