Etymology: < Italian simetite (O. Helm 1886, in Malpighia 1 54) < Simeto , the name of a river in Sicily + Italian -ite -ite suffix1.
Mineralogy.
A variety of amber found in Sicily, ranging in colour from deep red to orange-yellow.Compared to other varieties of amber, simetite has a relatively high content of sulphur and oxygen and a low succinic acid content.
